HANNAH BERRY (NEE WELLS)
Ironman Athlete
I have been competing professionally at IRONMAN and half IRONMAN (70.3) triathlon events for the past 6+ years, both in NZ and all around the world. After struggling with injury on and off over the years, I finally committed to doing regular strength training (2 x per week) a little over 12 months ago under the guidance of Loretta, and I have been injury free since. In addition, I have seen strength improvements in the gym which have crossed over to improvements in both swimming and biking, and as a result, I have achieved career best results over the last 12 months. Now, strength training will always be an important part of my overall training for IRONMAN triathlon.
The strength programs given to me by Loretta have not only been specific to my sport and my needs around injury history, but the workouts have always been enjoyable and time efficient, so it has been easy for me to continue with strength training even when I am out of the country training and competing. I can’t recommend Loretta highly enough to help you in your sport journey!
SAMUEL TANNER
Olympic 1500m Runner
My strength and conditioning journey started a few years into my professional 1500m running career where I stepped into the gym for an assessment with Loretta.
We worked through some of my strengths, and they helped me quickly identify my weaknesses. Only after a few years of Loretta’s programming, I have noticed huge changes in my overall strength and stability which have lead to some massive performances and Personal Best’s-3:31 in the 1500m and 1:46 in the 800m.
She has been working closely alongside my coach and physio to help change and alter my workouts to suit my needs throughout all the different stages of my training.
EVA GOODISON
NZ Triathlete
Strength training is everything for me and my triathlon journey. As a female athlete, incorporating strength training is crucial for longevity. Unfortunately, I had to learn this the hard way. After enduring one too many stress fractures in my foot, I decided I’d had enough and turned to Stacy Sims' book, Roar, where I learned about the value of strength training for female athletes. I then began my own heavy lifting journey and have since reaped the benefits, including increased power, speed, and, most importantly, improved bone density to reduce injury.
For me, the gym has become just as important, if not more so, than swimming, biking, or running. Building strength not only keeps me healthy and resilient but also makes me faster! Plus, the mental benefits of lifting and feeling good are almost worth it on their own!
